What are the benefits of regular dental check-ups?

Even people who take care of their health sometimes struggle with regular dental check-ups. However, there are many reasons why it is worth remembering to do them systematically.

Dental check-ups — what is their purpose?

Regular dental check-ups are the key to maintaining oral health. As we can read on the website Nova Dent dentist, dental check-up it has primarily a diagnostic character — it allows for the quick localization of emerging caries lesions.

It is worth remembering that many of them are located in places that are invisible to us, but which can be easily reached by someone with the appropriate equipment specialist. During the visit, he will also check the condition of the oral mucosa and gums, and check whether we have developed bite problems or excessive enamel wear. This will enable the detection of problems and implementation of appropriate therapy.

Why are regular dental check-ups important?

Regular dental check-ups is important for two reasons. The first of them is the possibility of rapid implementation of treatment. Early detected caries lesions can be easily removed, and the scale of the dentist's interference in the tooth tissue will be minimal at the same time. This will save us from unpleasant experiences in the future.

The second reason is to reduce the probability of complications from oral diseases that are detrimental to the entire body. For example, few people realize that untreated tooth decay can result in diabetes, hypertension, and many other cardiovascular diseases. The reverse relationship can also occur: changes in the oral cavity can be the result of systemic diseases. Regular dental check-ups will help detect them.

Dental check-ups — what procedures can a dentist perform during them?

Dental check-up may also be an opportunity to perform hygiene treatments. They are an important supplement to daily oral hygiene — they allow for the removal of tartar, plaque, and discoloration that we would not be able to deal with during regular teeth brushing.

Part of the visit may be fluoridation. Its effect is the strengthening of the enamel, which protects our teeth against tooth decay. During the procedure, strictly aesthetic steps are also performed, such as tooth polishing, which allows for a lighter shade and adds radiance to the smile.

How often should dental check-ups take place?

For dental check-ups to benefit us, they should be performed regularly. It is most commonly assumed that the optimal interval between them is 6 months. They should be slightly more frequent dental check-ups for children and adolescents.

A separate issue is visits during dental procedures, such as teeth whitening or root canal treatment — in this case, appointments are scheduled by the dentist. Of course, all this does not apply to emergency situations: if we are bothered by a toothache, we see the beginnings of cavities appearing, or filling damage, we should react as soon as possible.
