Time change in 2022 – when do we set our clocks?

The time of year is coming when the thought slowly begins to dawn on us, when to change the clock from winter to daylight saving time and do we even still have to do it? Contrary to earlier announcements, yes, 2022 is another year when we face the time change and its day will arrive soon.

Daylight saving time change

When do we have to change our clocks?

Changing the clocks This is quite a tedious task. Electronic devices such as smartphones, computers, or smartwatches pose less of a problem, which they change the time automatically. However, it is time-consuming to change the position of the hands of analog wall clocks, wristwatches, or those in cars. The established rule is that time change from winter to summerand we change it on the last Sunday of March. This year we have to prepare for it as early as the night of March 27, when we have to set the clock forward from 2:00 to 3:00. This will, of course, result in our sleep being shortened by an hour that night, but on the other hand, we will be able to enjoy sunlight for an hour longer during the day.

If no modifications are made, daylight saving time will remain in effect until October 30, 2022. On that day, we will have to move our clock hands again, changing their setting from 3:00 to 2:00, thereby gaining an extra hour of sleep.

Where did daylight saving time come from?

First the idea of daylight saving time change appeared in the 18th century and was authored by Benjamin Franklin. He proposed changing the time during the winter in order to shorten the day and encourage the population to go to sleep earlier to save energy. At the time, the change was not implemented, but in 1916 it was carried out by the Austro-Hungarian Empire to reduce the consumption of coal, which was an extremely important resource during World War I, and just 2 years later the USA followed the Europeans by introducing the same rule. As can be seen, at the beginning of the 20th century decision to change the time it had an economic character.

Is this the last shift already?

Matter Time changes z winter na summer and the reverse is discussed by European politicians almost every year. They last discussed this topic in the European Parliament in 2021, but at that time they did not reach an agreement on stopping the changes. However, in 2019, it was decided that the time change would be abolished in the European Union in 2022. By virtue of this resolution, the time change in March 2022 would be the last one we have to make in Poland. Will that actually be the case? We must wait for final confirmation from the authorities.

What are the effects of time change?

First of all, there are still many voices saying that seasonal time change continues to have a positive impact on the state's economy and electricity savings, but the airline and railway sectors lose out as they have to modify their timetables. However, these are not the only consequences, because shifting the clocks also affects our health. People with chronic illnesses and sleep problems are particularly vulnerable, as their biological clock needs more time to readjust after the change, which can take up to a week.

It is estimated that Daylight saving time change twice a year brings economic costs greater than the theoretical savings on electricity. So are we facing already the last clock changeWhat is your opinion on this?
